Windows Server 2016 License Agreement

Historically, the way Microsoft has provided important new or advanced features for Windows Server has been to provide a new product version, supporting each new version with free security and reliability fixes for up to 10 years. Versions alternated between the main versions (designated after one year, z.B. Windows Server 2012) and the ancillary versions (distinguishing an “R2” for “Release Two,” z.B. Windows Server 2012 R2). While Microsoft has continued to issue new licenses to the server for each new release, the R2 versions of Windows Server did not have their own client versions, and access was allowed with CALs for the previous version (non R2). 7. DATA STORAGE TECHNOLOGY. The server software may contain a data storage technology called Windows Internal Database. The components of the server software use this technology to store data. You cannot use this technology or otherwise access it under this contract. Assuming a 2012 Windows Server license costs windows Server 2016 the same cost as 8 cores, a quick cost analysis suggests that customers with hardware with 16 or fewer cores should not see an increase in the cost of the license.

Servers with more physical processors and more cores per physical processor can expect an increase in the cost of the license if they pay today. Example: Azure Stack, currently in the “Technical Preview” phase, is a local software that reflects much of Azure`s infrastructure and service code for private cloud hosting. Over time, Azure Stack can replace traditional Windows server clusters, especially systems that host VM-based workloads. However, Microsoft has not yet released details about the creation of Azure Stack`s license. It is not clear whether customers who migrate to Azure Stack will be able to use their local windows licenses in some way or whether they will have to cancel previous investments. Concerned customers, particularly customers with large Windows Server SA investments near an extension, could raise this issue at Microsoft. Cbb. Like LTSB, CBB provides security updates, critical fixes and software updates on a monthly or frequent basis. However, CBB also provides feature updates two to three times a year. Microsoft offers security updates and bug fixes only for systems where the last two published CBB feature updates are running (i.e., organizations must provide operating system updates on CBB servers every eight to twelve months or so). CBB is required when Windows Server is provided in Nano Server installation mode. To be able to use CBB, customers must have an active SA for the basic licenses of Windows Server and all associated CAL.

ยท reassigning physical processors from one licensed hardware partition to another; B. License model. The license model differs depending on the software edition you purchased: e. No disconnection from the server software. You should not separate the software from the server under a single license for use in more than one operating system environment, unless that is expressly authorized. This also applies when operating system environments are on the same physical hardware system. Under the new core-based licensing model, a client gets the right to run two VMs on a server simultaneously each time they receive the minimum number of standard editing key licenses for the server.
